Ok so this was Mer's first day back at the hospital and it was kind of a reality shock for her. The hospital wasn't the same place anymore and she felt rather out of place. There were trauma room barbies masquerading as Cardio Gods and there were unknown people stealing away surgeries right up from under her. But the thing that made all of this seem drastic was the fact that the make shift family she had created for herself since her VERY first day here... the family of the 5 musketeers... the family whose motto was "one for all and all for one"... THAT family was in shambles. George got hit by bus and died and Izzie got hit by cancer, then she got fired and then she disappeared.... phew a lot had changed A LOT and it was only NOW that Mer was feeling its brunt. Unable to digest so much change. Unable to accept it. Unable to fit in, she tried to escape it by over and over again going back to the good old days where everything was EXACTLY same as she had left them and every single one of the people she loved were happy and safe... but NOTHING brought her peace until the ONE timeless thing in her life, the thing that remained as solid as ever amidst all the mess and chaos, that thing against whose solidity resonated her VERY existence... that ONE thing walked in and took her to a completely different world in a span of mere five seconds... in five seconds she traveled to a world where there was no competition no race no hate no loss... where there was nothing but... magic... in five perfect seconds she experienced the happiness she had been craving for....and all it took for her to feel that was Derek Shepherd and his mere presence in her life "sigh".

It's such a simple serene moment between MerDer... all he does is kisses away all her worries and anxiety but still you can feel he took her to heaven there... it's a moment that tells us that happiness isn't about happily ever afters its about being happy RIGHT NOW and sometimes all it takes is a little peck to feel that happiness... happiness that tells us we are ALIVE.

I also want to acknowledge one very very special thing about this episode, a thing which I am sure most of us won't remember coz such moments come in whispers and more often than never we fail to acknowledge them. Izzie came back in this epi, not for Alex not for Mer but for her old teacher who happened to be sick and all day Mer kept on pushing her to amend things with Alex, she kept on updating Alex with the tiniest piece of information she could collect on Izzie and she kept on nagging him to go confront her... all day long she kept on fighting for Alex and Izzie and their love not only because they are her friends but also because she knows how rare it is to be able to find true love and she couldn't just sit and watch her friends throw it all away... It shows how big a fighter Mer is and how her fights don't end at her life and at things she wants but instead they extend on to fighting for EVERY person she cares about... fighting for their dreams even when they themselves have given up... thats Meredith Grey for you... the person who doesn't froze, who moves forward and who takes the rest of the world to move forward...
